We are delighted to present an evening with one of the legends of folk music. Now 75 years old & recently moved back to the UK, multi-instrumentalist Peggy Seeger is considered one of the USA’s finest female folk performers. Her musical pedigree speaks for itself – composer & folk-song collector Ruth Crawford-Seeger’s daughter, Pete Seeger’s half sister and partner to Ewan McColl. It was for her that Ewan wrote ‘The First Time Ever I Saw your Face’ and she and Ewan instigated the legendary Radio Ballads form which combined music & political activism. Their effect on contemporary folk musicians has been profound. Her own best-known compositions are, probably, The Ballad of Springhill and Gonna be an Engineer.
